About

Hello! My name is Cory Althoff and this is my blog. After graduating from college with a major in political science, I was struggling with my career, so I decided to learn to program. After a year of studying, I was able to land a programming job with eBay. After a successful career as a software engineer in Silicon Valley, I wrote my debut book, The Self-Taught Programmer: The Definitive Guide to Programming Professionally, to help other people teach themselves to program.

After I published my book, I started receiving emails from people around the world thanking me for helping them learn to program. These emails inspired me to focus my energy creating a community of self-taught programmers and the Self-Taught Programmers Facebook group was born. The group has evolved into a supportive and inspirational community of over 45,000 programmers.

I created this blog to act as an extension to The Self-Taught Programmer and the Self-Taught Programmers Facebook group. With articles ranging from stories of other programmers successfully transitioning careers to coding tutorials, selftaught.blog is the ultimate resource for self-taught programmers.
